Tokyo Disney Resort, Amusement park in Maihama, Japan.
Tokyo Disney Resort is a leisure complex in Maihama featuring two separate theme parks connected by an elevated monorail line. The grounds also include several hotels, restaurants, and shops along a central shopping and dining promenade.
The complex opened in 1983 as the first Disney project outside the United States, operated through a Japanese licensing agreement. The second park was added in 2001 to expand the offerings and allow longer visits.
DisneySea takes its name from the ocean theme that runs through all its areas, where staff follow Japanese service customs with polite greetings and careful attention to guest comfort. Visitors notice orderly queues and clean walkways that reflect local habits of respect and organization in shared spaces.
Most attractions and restaurants open in the morning and close in the evening, with wait times that can grow longer on weekends and holidays. A visit on weekdays or outside school holiday periods often means shorter lines and more room to move.
DisneySea is the only Disney park in the world to feature seven areas with fully maritime settings, from Mediterranean harbors to volcanic islands. The central volcano serves as a landmark and houses an attraction inside the mountain itself.
