Western River Railroad, Heritage railway attraction in Maihama, Japan
The Western River Railroad is a steam locomotive railway line at Tokyo Disneyland that takes visitors through several themed areas. The ride connects three stops and runs along artificial river landscapes and recreated wilderness backdrops.
The railway began operations in early 1983 and was among the first attractions at the newly opened Tokyo Disneyland. Its official opening took place in mid-April of that year after the facility had been commissioned.
The trains follow design models from American Western cinema and give visitors an impression of historical steam locomotives. Along the route, travelers encounter moving figures that recreate scenes from frontier times.
Visitors board at three different stations and can use the transport to move comfortably between park areas. The trains run at regular intervals throughout the park's opening hours.
The tracks pass through tunnels and over bridges, and travelers pass scenes that recreate the Colorado River and the wilderness of the American West Coast. During the ride, sounds of animals and waterfalls can be heard.
