Tokyo DisneySea is a maritime theme park in Urayasu built around Mount Prometheus, a volcano that serves as its centerpiece. It has eight themed ports of call: Mediterranean Harbor, American Waterfront, Port Discovery, Lost River Delta, Arabian Coast, Mermaid Lagoon, Mysterious Island and Fantasy Springs, which opened in June 2024. Mediterranean Harbor, the entrance area, is laid out in a large V shape rather than a single main street.
The Oriental Land Company opened the park on September 4, 2001, after several years of construction and an investment of 335 billion yen. The site was built on reclaimed land next to Tokyo Disneyland to expand the resort.
The park's eight ports of call each stage a different setting, from the Venetian canals of Mediterranean Harbor to the Arabian Coast and the Jules Verne-themed Mysterious Island inside Mount Prometheus. Fantasy Springs, opened on 6 June 2024, added areas based on Frozen, Tangled and Peter Pan. Restaurants serve dishes matched to each port, and alcohol is sold, unlike at Tokyo Disneyland.
Visitors reach the entrance via Maihama Station on the JR Keiyo Line, from where shuttle buses or a short walk lead to the park entrance. Those who arrive early find shorter wait times at the most popular rides and can orient themselves more easily.
Hotel MiraCosta forms part of Mediterranean Harbor, so guests in some rooms can look directly onto water attractions and evening shows. On certain evenings, light and water spectacles take place on the central lake, clearly visible from the hotel.
