Asuka, Archaeological complex in Takaichi district, Japan
The archaeological site stretches across a valley containing ancient palace foundations, temple ruins, and ceremonial structures dating from the 6th century.
Between 593 and 710 CE, Asuka functioned as Japan's imperial capital, marking a crucial period of political centralization and architectural development.
The archaeological remains at Asuka demonstrate the introduction of Buddhism and Chinese architectural principles into Japanese construction methods during the 7th century.
Visitors can access the archaeological park through the Kintetsu Yoshino Line to Asuka Station, with rental bicycles available for site exploration.
The site contains numerous carved stone monuments, including the Masuda No Iwafune, a 11-meter-long granite block with precise geometric cuts.
