Mount Tateshina

Mount Tateshina is a complex volcano in Nagano Prefecture with an elevation of approximately 2,530 meters, featuring a distinctive two-part structure. The base rises as a stratovolcano, while the upper section tapers into a bell-shaped dome.

The mountain gained recognition after being included in the list of 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. This designation established its status among the country's most notable peaks.

Locals call this peak Suwa-fuji because its shape resembles Mount Fuji when seen from certain viewpoints across the region. This name reflects how the mountain sits in the visual identity of the surrounding communities.

Access to the summit follows mainly the seventh station route, which requires approximately three to four hours of climbing. Hikers should plan for altitude and arrive in reasonable fitness.

The summit is surrounded by scattered rocks of varying sizes that form a natural viewing area. From this vantage point, visitors can see both the North and South Japanese Alps.
