Omitama

Omitama is a city in Ibaraki Prefecture that spreads across flat land north of Lake Kasumigaura with a humid subtropical climate. Summers here are warm and winters cool, creating seasonal changes that shape daily life throughout the year.

This city came into being through an administrative merger of two towns and a village in 2006. The combination created a new local government unit in Ibaraki and reshaped how the surrounding area was governed.

The Ogawa Gion Festival has roots in old religious traditions and draws large crowds each year with processions and music. Locals and visitors gather in the streets to watch floats and perform dances that connect people to the area's past.

The nearest airport handles domestic and international flights and is within reasonable distance for travel. Train connections and multiple highways make it easy to reach the city by car or rail from surrounding areas.

The region produces more eggs than anywhere else in Japan and has built its identity around agricultural specialization. Farms here grow blueberries, apples, and chestnuts alongside natto production facilities.
