Nakanojō

Nakanojō is a town in Gunma Prefecture set across mountainous land where rivers cut through the terrain. The settlement spans several valleys and features a mix of river landscapes and forested areas.

The town formed in 1889 during the Meiji Restoration through the merging of several neighboring villages. This consolidation united smaller settlements into a single administrative entity.

The town gathers for seasonal celebrations featuring traditional drums and folk dances that reflect local pride and community bonds. These festivals bring people together throughout the year and show how the place values its customs.

The town connects to major cities through a railroad line and several national roads that pass through the area. Arriving by car or train is straightforward, though roads wind through the mountains.

A rare moss called Chatsubomigoke grows throughout the region's natural areas and was designated a national natural treasure in 2017. This plant makes the place botanically remarkable for visitors who notice it on the ground.
