Motoyawata Station, Railway and metro interchange station in Ichikawa, Japan
Motoyawata Station is a railway and metro interchange in Ichikawa with an elevated JR East platform above and an underground Toei Subway section below. The two sections are linked by internal passages and maintain separate ticket gates for each transit system.
The station opened in 1935 on the Sobu Main Line, long before it was enlarged in 1989 to incorporate the Toei Shinjuku Line. This expansion allowed the facility to serve two distinct rail networks.
The station functions as the only Toei Subway station located in Chiba Prefecture, connecting Tokyo's metro network with the wider Kanto region.
The station welcomes tens of thousands of passengers daily who transfer between the upper and lower levels. Visitors should allow extra time to navigate between the different ticket gates.
The station integrates regional train services with metropolitan subway systems through separate ticket gates connected by dedicated passenger passages.
