Showa-ku, Administrative ward in Nagoya, Japan

Showa-ku spans 10.94 square kilometers in central Nagoya, bordered by Mizuho, Atsuta, Naka, Tenpaku, and Chikusa wards with a population of 110,436 residents.

The ward formed on October 1, 1937, from portions of Naka and Minami districts, later incorporating Gokiso Village and parts of the former Kawanayama-cho region.

Educational institutions shape the ward's character, including Nagoya University Medical School, Nagoya Institute of Technology, Nanzan University, and multiple specialized museums.

The district contains 93 postal codes, with the main code 466-0000, and connects to other parts of Nagoya through the Municipal Subway's Tsurumai, Sakura-dori, and Meijo lines.

During the Edo period, the Kawanayama-cho area within current Showa-ku gained recognition as a production center for Kawana ceramic ware at Kojaku-in.
