Ōdōri Station, Metro station in Chūō-ku, Sapporo, Japan
Ōdōri Station is an underground metro station in Chūō-ku, Sapporo, where the Namboku, Tōzai, and Toho lines all meet. The Namboku and Toho lines each use side platforms while the Tōzai Line uses an island platform, giving the station a total of six tracks spread across several underground levels.
The station opened on December 16, 1971, as part of the first phase of the Namboku Line, which was Sapporo's first metro line. The Tōzai and Toho lines were added in the following decades, gradually turning it into the central node of the city's metro network.
The station takes its name from Ōdōri Park, a long green strip running through the center of Sapporo where seasonal festivals and markets gather crowds throughout the year. Exiting toward the park, visitors immediately find themselves at the heart of where city life happens.
The station has exits spread across both sides of the Ōdōri boulevard, so checking which exit to use before leaving the platform saves time. Transfers between the three lines involve different underground levels, and the signage throughout the station is available in Japanese and English.
From Ōdōri Station, a network of underground passages connects directly to several shopping centers and leads as far as the base of the Sapporo TV Tower. On cold winter days, it is possible to walk through a large part of the city center entirely underground without stepping outside.
