Minamikoma district

Minamikoma is an administrative district in southern Yamanashi Prefecture comprising four towns: Fujikawa, Hayakawa, Minobu, and Nanbu. The area features mountainous terrain with river valleys, agricultural land, and forests that cover the landscape across different elevations.

The district was established in 1878 following a territorial reorganization and experienced multiple administrative changes throughout the 20th century. These shifts gradually shaped its current boundaries and organization.

Kuon-ji Temple in Minobu stands as the primary religious center of Nichiren Buddhism, shaping how the community views spirituality and gatherings. The temple's presence influences local events and brings people together for religious observances throughout the year.

The area is sparsely populated with communities spread across mountainous terrain, so travel between towns requires extra time. Bringing maps or GPS navigation is helpful since public transportation is limited in most areas.

A section of the Southern Alps passes through the area, offering a wide range of hiking trails for different skill levels. These mountain paths attract outdoor enthusiasts year-round who enjoy walking through forests and alpine terrain.
