Kokurakita-ku

Kokurakita-ku spans across 39 square kilometers and contains the central railway station of Kitakyushu along with several commercial districts.

The ward originated from the northern section of Kokura City, which merged with four other cities in 1963 to establish Kitakyushu.

The Tanga Market represents the local food culture with vendors selling fresh seafood, meats, and vegetables in traditional open-air settings.

The area houses major transportation connections through Kokura Station, where the Sanyo Shinkansen trains and local railway lines intersect.

Kokurakita-ku maintains the residence where physician Mori Ogai wrote the Kokura Diary while serving at the local military garrison.
