Tokmok, Administrative city in Chuy Region, Kyrgyzstan
Tokmok extends across 41 square kilometers in the Chuy Valley of northern Kyrgyzstan, with the Chu River marking its northern border with Kazakhstan.
The settlement began as a Khanate of Kokand military outpost in 1830, later transitioning to Russian control when Major-General Mikhail Chernyayev established the modern city in 1864.
The population of 71,443 residents represents multiple ethnic groups including Kyrgyz, Russians, Dungans, and Uzbeks, creating a diverse social environment in northern Kyrgyzstan.
The city maintains strong industrial presence through glass manufacturing, with Interglass LLC producing 200,000 tons of glass per year for regional distribution.
The Burana Tower, dating from the 11th century, stands 15 kilometers south of the city, marking the location of the medieval settlement of Balasagun.
