Soongsil University, private Christian university in Seoul, South Korea
Soongsil University is a private research university in Seoul with over 16,000 students. The campus houses ten undergraduate schools and eight graduate schools, offering programs in business, computer science, engineering, and social sciences.
Founded in 1897 by Christian missionary William M. Baird, it was among the first modern universities established in South Korea. The school reopened in Seoul in 1954 after closure during Japanese occupation and adopted its current name in 1986.
The university integrates Christian values into campus life through regular events and activities. Students from different backgrounds come together to participate in cultural and faith-based gatherings that reflect the school's mission.
The campus is located in Sangdo-dong and is easily accessible by bus and taxi from around the city. The surrounding area is filled with cafes, restaurants, and student accommodations, making it straightforward for visitors and new students to get oriented.
A popular spot among students is the C-Bomb bar, where the cocktail Taximansi was created by a foreign student and became a symbol of campus life. This informal creation shows how international students have shaped the university's social culture.
