The National Library of Korea houses over 12 million items, including 9 million Korean books, 1.5 million foreign books, and 286,000 historical texts.
The institution originated from the Daehan Library in 1906, transformed into the Government-General Library in 1923, and became the National Library after Korea's liberation in 1945.
The collection preserves Korean literary heritage through rare manuscripts, traditional medicine texts, and the first Korean paperback novels from the 1910s.
The library maintains digital archives accessible through the Dibrary Portal, with five underground levels and three ground floors open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The facility contains specialized collections of materials written by foreigners before 1945, documenting external perspectives on Korean society and culture.
