Dongdaemun History & Culture Park, Urban park in Jung District, South Korea.
Dongdaemun History & Culture Park is an urban park in central Seoul with exhibition spaces, archaeological sites, and the Dongdaemun Design Plaza. The grounds combine open green areas with modern buildings and display historical objects found during excavations.
The site developed after the former Dongdaemun Stadium was demolished and excavations uncovered a large amount of historical artifacts from the Joseon period. These discoveries now form the basis for the park's exhibitions and design.
The site preserves traces of earlier periods beneath its modern structures, showing through its layout how Seoul developed over centuries. Visitors can experience both time periods side by side as they walk through the space.
The park connects directly to Dongdaemun History & Culture Park station, where lines 2, 4, and 5 of Seoul's subway pass through. Visitors can easily enter and explore different areas on foot.
After sunset, the grounds are illuminated by thousands of artificial glowing roses that create a garden landscape. This light installation invites visitors to experience the park in a completely different way.
