Болғанмола мұнай кен орны, Oil field in western Kazakhstan
Bolghanmola is an oil field in western Kazakhstan situated near the Caspian Sea coast. The operation extracts crude oil from subsurface reservoirs beneath the flat steppe landscape.
The oil field was discovered in 1979 and started commercial production in 1993. Since then it has become a key part of regional energy infrastructure.
The field operations involve collaboration between international companies Chevron Corporation, ExxonMobil, and local corporation KazMunayGas under Tengizchevroil management.
The site is located in a remote region with limited visitor access. Preparation for harsh climate conditions and steppe winds is important when exploring the landscape.
The crude oil extracted here has high sulfur content, which creates substantial sulfur byproducts during refining. This characteristic makes processing more technically demanding than at many other fields.
