Tekturmas Mausoleum

Tekturmas Mausoleum is a brick burial structure sitting on the southeastern bank of the Talas River, built in a four-sided design with a dome on top. The building shows a simple geometric form that was common for burial monuments across medieval Central Asia.

Built in the 1500s, this structure serves as the burial place of Sultan Makhmudkhan, a military leader linked to the Kara-Khanids. The mausoleum marks an important moment in the region's history when local rulers held power over their lands.

The name Tekturmas means 'mountains standing for a reason' in the local language, showing how deeply this structure connects to the land around it. You can sense this link when you stand before the building and look at how it sits within the landscape.
