Koura District, Administrative district in North Lebanon
The Koura District spans 173 square kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Lebanon, containing 52 villages with Amioun as its capital.
Archaeological findings indicate human settlement in the Koura District dating back to the Paleolithic period, with ancient Semitic peoples arriving around 4000 BC.
The district maintains a notable Greek Orthodox presence, representing 58 percent of its population, making it the only majority Greek Orthodox district in Lebanon.
The University of Balamand operates its main campus within the district, providing higher education opportunities to students from Lebanon and neighboring countries.
The district contains extensive olive orchards that produce high-quality olive oil, with some trees estimated to be among the oldest cultivated specimens.
