Tripoli Municipal Stadium, Multi-purpose stadium in Tripoli, Lebanon

Tripoli Municipal Stadium is a multi-purpose sports facility in the city that can hold around 10,000 spectators in its seating areas. The playing field consists of natural grass that is regularly maintained to support matches and competitions.

The stadium opened its doors on May 29, 1960, and has evolved as a central sporting venue for the city. Over the decades, it has been renovated multiple times to accommodate regional and international sporting events.

The stadium is home to AC Tripoli and carries the name of Rashid Karami, the former Lebanese prime minister. Its terraces are known for a sporting crowd that avoids the violence seen in other grounds. In 2017, 17-year-old player Ali Othman was killed by a lightning strike during a team training session on this pitch.

The venue is located in central Tripoli and is accessible by car or on foot for visitors. It is advisable to arrive early when attending sporting events to secure good seating and avoid congestion.

The natural grass survived for decades through the work of Ahmad As-Sabbagh Abu Hilmi, a former goalkeeper and Tripoli municipality employee, while other Lebanese grass pitches stopped hosting sport for lack of upkeep. The stadium was designed by engineer Emil Khlat and inaugurated on 29 May 1960.
