Ras El Kelb, Archaeological cave near Beirut, Lebanon

The truncated seaside cave sits 5 meters above sea level on the Lebanese coast, 8 kilometers north of metropolitan Beirut.

Archaeological excavations in 1959 uncovered more than 30,000 flint artifacts across 22 geological layers, including a Neanderthal tooth from 50,000 BC.

The inhabitants of this Middle Paleolithic settlement developed advanced flint-making techniques and used their tools for hunting gazelles in the coastal region.

The archaeological site maintains regular visiting hours and features educational displays explaining the significance of the prehistoric discoveries and geological formations.

Research indicates that Mediterranean Sea levels rose through the cave structure three separate times since its first human occupation.
