Rawan Ella, Mountain waterfall in Uduhawara, Sri Lanka

Rawan Ella is a waterfall located in Uduhawara within the Badulla District that cascades over rocky cliffs through several dropping levels surrounded by dense vegetation. The site features steep slopes and layered water stages that flow downward through the forest.

Rawan Ella is linked in Sinhala tradition to the Ravana story cycle, and its name is popularly explained as coming from 'ranvan', meaning golden, for the gold-coloured flow of its water. The falls are not the same as Ravana Falls near Ella, a separate waterfall often confused with this one.

Local tradition holds that a copper pot filled with gold lies buried in the plunge pool at the base of the falls and occasionally rises to the surface, though it is said to be impossible to touch. The name may come from 'ranvan', Sinhala for golden, referring to the gold-coloured stream.

To reach the waterfall, follow a marked trail from the nearest road wearing sturdy footwear for secure footing on uneven ground. Bring water with you since the route requires walking through forest to access the site.
