Totapolakanda, Mountain summit in Nuwara Eliya District, Sri Lanka.
Totapolakanda is a mountain summit in Nuwara Eliya District that rises to 2,357 meters (7,731 feet) and is the third highest peak within Horton Plains National Park. The summit area features open views across surrounding ridges and is covered with native shrubland vegetation.
The mountain connects to ancient Indian legends that describe it as the initial landing site of King Rama during his journey. These narratives have anchored the site in regional beliefs for centuries.
The name comes from the Sinhala language and refers to a mythological landing site in local narratives. Visitors can discover this cultural significance through stories shared in the area.
A two-kilometer marked trail starting near the Pattipola entrance of the national park guides visitors through shrubland to the summit. The path is well-marked, but weather conditions can change rapidly, so bring layers and rain protection for safety.
The summit is home to specialized plant species like Strobilanthes, Osbeckia, and Rhodomyrtus that have adapted to high-altitude conditions. These rare plants grow only at this elevation and are rarely found elsewhere in the region.
