Lipton's seat, Mountain viewpoint in Badulla District, Sri Lanka.
Lipton's Seat is a scenic viewpoint in Sri Lanka's highlands situated at roughly 1,400 meters (4,600 feet) elevation. The location offers wide views across terraced tea estates that slope downward into converging valleys below.
A Scottish tea merchant named Thomas Lipton acquired land here in the 1890s and started large-scale tea production. The estates expanded rapidly and made this area one of Sri Lanka's major tea regions.
The surrounding tea plantations employ local workers who maintain traditional harvesting methods, collecting leaves by hand throughout the extensive fields.
Arrive early in the morning before fog settles and blocks the distant views. The site is open throughout the day, but clear morning hours offer the best sightseeing conditions.
From this vantage point, observers can simultaneously view five Sri Lankan provinces and spot three different lighthouses on clear days.
