Dunsinane Falls

Dunsinane Falls drops roughly 100 meters through rocky terrain and creates several tiers of cascading water between two tea estates. The waterfall is surrounded by vegetation and situated in a hilly section of Sri Lanka's central highlands.

The name comes from Dunsinane Hill in Scotland, given during the British colonial period when tea estates were being established in the region. The naming reflects the connection British settlers maintained to their homeland as they developed plantations in these highlands.

The waterfall sits within tea plantation country, and people from nearby communities use it for bathing and religious ceremonies. The falls remain woven into local daily life and continue to serve as a place for traditional practices.

The ground is wet and slippery, especially after rain, so sturdy footwear and caution are necessary when walking around. Visitors should arrive early in the day when sunlight hits the rocks and lighting conditions are better for photography.

The waterfall flows as part of a river system that runs between two large tea estates and forms a natural boundary between the properties. This location offers a rare view of how water and agriculture coexist in the highlands.
