Kadadora Vihara, Buddhist temple in Kotmale, Sri Lanka
The ruins of Kadadora Vihara contain sculptured Buddha statues and deity figures situated beneath the waters of Kotmale Reservoir.
The temple, constructed in 1897 and rebuilt in 1937, submerged underwater during the construction of Kotmale Dam in 1979.
Prior to submersion, the temple held religious importance with the Bodigaraya wall protecting its Bo tree and a Puujasanaya for ceremonies.
Visitors can access the location via Gampola-Ulapane-Pussellawa road, with both public buses and private transportation options available.
The temple ruins emerge from the waters during rare occasions when the Kotmale Reservoir water levels decrease significantly.
