Jebel Uweinat

The granite mountain formation rises to 1,934 meters in elevation and extends across 38 kilometers from east to west and 23 kilometers north to south.

Egyptian explorer Ahmed Pasha Hassanein first documented the mountain's extensive rock art collections during his 1923 expedition through the region.

The mountain walls contain numerous prehistoric engravings depicting lions, giraffes, gazelles, and human figures, representing early pastoral societies in the Sahara.

Accessing the mountain requires special permits and heavy-duty vehicles capable of navigating through remote desert terrain and challenging sand conditions.

The western slope features an oasis at its base with natural springs, including Ain Dua, which provides water sources in this desert environment.
