Drâa-Tafilalet, Administrative region in southeastern Morocco
Drâa-Tafilalet is an administrative region in southeastern Morocco encompassing five provinces between the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara. The main cities are Errachidia, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Zagora, and Midelt, which serve as hubs across this broad territory.
The region was created in 2015 through a merger of territories from two former administrative divisions. This reorganization brought together previously separate areas under a single regional government based in Errachidia.
Craft traditions here remain active and visible in daily life, with potters in Tamegroute and carpet weavers in Taznakht still working by hand. These activities shape the character of the villages and what you encounter when visiting.
Two main highways, Route 9 and Route 10, connect the major cities throughout the area. Flying in through regional airports in Errachidia, Ouarzazate, or Zagora is another way to reach the region.
The Ouarzazate Province houses substantial film studios near the Sahara where international film crews regularly work. These facilities have become known for hosting large-scale cinema productions from around the world.
