Тврдина Метеон, Archaeological site in Medun, Montenegro
Tvrđina Meteon is a fortified ancient settlement located on a high ridge in northeastern Montenegro. The site contains stone walls, building foundations, and other archaeological remains spread across a steep mountainside.
The settlement was founded between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC and later became the residence of King Gentius before Roman forces captured it in 167 BC.
The stone constructions show ancient building methods where large dressed blocks were stacked without mortar. The walls still tell the story of the skills of those who created this place thousands of years ago.
The site is located about 13 kilometers northeast of Podgorica and is accessible by mountain road. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes because the paths are steep and cross rough ground with stones.
Excavations at the site regularly uncover objects that provide clues about different periods of occupation. These finds show how people lived and worked at this location across several centuries.
