Cross River State, Administrative region in southeastern Nigeria.
Cross River State extends across 23,072 square kilometers of tropical forests, rivers, and mountains between Cameroon and neighboring Nigerian states.
The territory began as part of Eastern Region until 1967, when it became South-Eastern State, before receiving its current name in 1976.
The region contains multiple ethnic groups including Efik, Ejagham, and Bekwarra peoples, each maintaining their distinct languages and traditions.
The University of Calabar and Cross River University of Technology provide higher education to students across eighteen local government areas.
Cross River National Park protects numerous species within its boundaries, including the rare Cross River gorilla population.
