Cross River National Park, National park in Cross River State, Nigeria
Cross River National Park is a nature reserve in Cross River State that stretches across mountainous and rolling terrain from the Kanyan area to the Obudu plateau. The park consists of two separate sections, each with different landscapes and ecosystems.
The government established this protected area in 1991 to safeguard endangered wildlife and rainforest ecosystems. Its creation was part of a national effort to preserve Nigeria's natural heritage.
Local communities around the park practice sustainable resource use and have protected this land for generations. You can see their relationship with the forest reflected in how the area is cared for today.
Visitors enter through designated gates where guides lead walks on marked trails. The dry season is the best time to visit, as paths are easier to navigate and wildlife viewing is more rewarding.
The park has two divisions located in different areas, with the southern section bordering the neighboring Korup National Park in Cameroon. This cross-border connection creates a shared habitat for wildlife spanning two countries.
