Obudu Mountain Resort, Mountain resort in Cross River State, Nigeria
Obudu Mountain Resort sits atop the Obudu Plateau at about 1,600 meters (5,250 feet) elevation and features tennis courts, a natural swimming pool, and a golf course spread across the grounds. The site combines natural terrain with recreational facilities set among the highland landscape.
Scottish rancher M. McCaughley established the resort in 1951 following his exploration of the mountain ranges and partnership with Hugh Jones and Dr. Crawfeild. This founding transformed the plateau from pastoral grazing land into a destination for visitors.
The entrance displays a sculpted cow head, honoring the site's roots as a working cattle ranch and reflecting how farming shaped life in these highlands. This symbol remains a visible reminder of the regional agricultural traditions that visitors encounter upon arrival.
The resort lies roughly 330 kilometers from Calabar or about 30 minutes from Obudu town in the Obanliku area. Road conditions at this altitude vary with the season, so checking on travel conditions beforehand helps with planning your visit.
The grounds contain the Becheve Nature Reserve, home to numerous plant species and rare birds of the Sankwala Mountains. This protected area draws visitors interested in observing mountain wildlife and forest ecology.
