Fort Munro is a hill town in the Sulaiman Mountain range, sitting at about 1800 meters elevation and noticeably cooler than the flat regions around it in Punjab. The place is surrounded by hills and has different landscapes on each side that shape its appearance.
The place was founded in 1869 by Sir Robert Sandeman and named after Commissioner Munro of the Derajat Division at that time. This founding made it an important British administrative center in the region.
