Loralai District, Administrative district in Balochistan, Pakistan
Loralai District is an administrative area in northeastern Balochistan situated at about 4,700 feet elevation with four administrative divisions named Bori, Duki, Loralai, and Mekhtar. The region is known for grain crops like wheat and barley as well as almond, apple, and apricot orchards spread across its terrain.
The district was established by British colonial authorities in October 1903 as a unified administrative territory. In 1992, its territory was divided to create the new districts of Musakhel and Barkhan.
The population here is predominantly Pashtun and Baloch, with daily life shaped by traditional crafts, family structures, and local customs. Pashto is spoken by over 96 percent of the inhabitants, reflecting the strong cultural bonds within these communities.
Visitors should note that the higher elevation means cooler temperatures, particularly during winter months. The best time to explore is spring and early autumn, when the weather is pleasant and the rural infrastructure is easiest to navigate.
The ground here holds economically important minerals including coal, marble, and fluorite that have been partially extracted or surveyed. These natural resources shape the local economy alongside agriculture and give the region a different character beyond farming.
