Raikot Bridge, Road bridge in Diamer District, Pakistan
Raikot Bridge is a road crossing over the Indus River high in the mountains of northern Pakistan along the Karakoram Highway. It spans roughly 510 feet and connects remote valleys on either side of the river.
Military engineers built this crossing in 1982 to connect remote mountain regions and improve infrastructure in northern Pakistan. A major renovation in 2013 strengthened and widened the structure to handle heavier vehicles.
The bridge links communities from different valleys and allows people who live far apart to meet and trade with each other. It has become a natural gathering point where local merchants and travelers interact daily.
Simple accommodations, small shops, and basic restaurants are available in the village near the bridge for travelers passing through. This location serves as the usual starting point for those planning to trek to Fairy Meadows.
The bridge relies on a simple design with two steel cables supporting a wooden-plank deck, a practical solution built for this remote mountain location. This cable-support system allows the structure to handle heavy loads while remaining relatively lightweight and maintainable.
