Spantik, Mountain summit in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
Spantik is a summit in the Karakoram range that rises 7,027 meters above sea level and is marked by a striking yellow marble pillar on its northwest side. This distinctive rock formation defines the mountain's shape and makes it easily recognizable to climbers from a distance.
The first known ascent took place in 1955 when a German expedition reached the summit via the Chogolungma Glacier route. This early climb marked the beginning of further climbing attempts on the mountain.
The mountain is called Ganesh Chish in the Burushaski language, a name referring to the golden color of its northwest wall. This naming reflects how local people perceive and describe the distinctive marble formation.
Climbers reach the mountain via Arandu in Shigar District or through the Hoper valleys in Nagar District, with the southeast ridge forming the main route. Both approaches require preparation and are well-established in climbing networks.
In 2019, Selena Khawaja set a world record by summiting at age 10, becoming the youngest person to reach above 7,000 meters. This remarkable achievement showed that extreme altitude is not limited to older or more experienced mountaineers.
