Khunyang Chhish, Mountain peak in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
Khunyang Chhish is a peak in the Hispar Muztagh subrange of the Karakoram mountains, reaching 7,852 meters (25,761 feet) above sea level. The mountain rises steeply above the Hispar Glacier system and presents demanding climbing conditions on most of its faces.
The peak remained unclimbed until modern expeditions arrived in the region. It represents one of the last significant mountaineering challenges in the Karakoram range of Pakistan.
The mountain's name reflects the linguistic heritage of Gilgit-Baltistan, where local communities maintain traditional practices in the shadow of these peaks.
Access requires extensive planning and special permits to climb in this region of the Karakoram. Visitors should prepare for extreme weather conditions and technical terrain, and should only attempt ascent with experienced guides.
The mountain is the sixth-highest peak in Pakistan, making it known among climbers throughout the country. Despite this ranking, it sees fewer visitors than other major summits in the region due to its technical difficulty.
