Czerwienne, Mountain village in Gmina Czarny Dunajec, Poland.
Czerwienne is a village in Gmina Czarny Dunajec, in the highland area of southern Lesser Poland. The buildings are scattered across gentle slopes, with meadows and patches of forest filling the spaces between them.
The settlement appeared in written records for the first time in 1595 under the name Miedzyczerowienne, which it kept for several centuries. In 1965, the name was shortened to Czerwienne.
The name Czerwienne comes from the Polish word for red, likely referring to the color of the local soil or plants found in the area. Wooden houses with carved details and fenced yards give the village a look that reflects the building traditions of the Podhale highland region.
The village is a good starting point for walking into the surrounding highland area, with paths leading to nearby villages and open terrain. Guesthouses in the area offer a place to stay for those who want to spend more than a day exploring on foot.
A part of the village known as the Morawy hamlet was once recognized across the region for its blacksmiths, who made farming tools including plows. This shows how a single corner of a mountain village could develop a craft reputation that spread well beyond its immediate surroundings.
