Pośrednia Turnia, Mountain summit in High Tatras, Poland.
Mittlerer Turm is a summit in the High Tatras located between Skrajna Turnia and Swinica peaks, rising 2,128 meters above sea level with steep rocky slopes. The exposed rock faces around the top present challenging terrain that demands experience and proper preparation.
The peak was first documented in 1841 when geologist Ludwik Zejszner reached the summit during his exploration of the High Tatras. This early scientific study brought attention to the summit and made it a known reference point for later climbers and researchers.
The name comes from shepherds of Hala Gasienicowa valley, who called it the middle peak because of its position between two larger summits. Today visitors can experience this central location and see why early inhabitants chose this name.
The mountain is accessed via a black-marked trail from Gasienicowa Valley to Swinicka Pass, and climbers need proper technical equipment and experience with difficult terrain. The route demands safety precautions and is suitable only for experienced mountaineers.
The slopes harbor rare plant species such as Carpathian fleabane, found nowhere else outside the Tatras. These adapted plants reveal how special the mountain environment is in this region.
