Ponta da Piedade Lighthouse

Farol de Ponta da Piedade is a white tower with a yellow cap set on a limestone promontory on the Algarve coast. The structure commands views of the rocky shoreline and ocean in all directions from its elevated position.

A chapel occupied this site from the 1580s onward, serving the local community until the early 1900s. In 1913 a lighthouse tower was built here to guide ships safely along the Algarve coast.

The lighthouse represents the maritime heritage of the Algarve region, where fishing communities have depended on coastal navigation for generations. The structure stands as a visible reminder of how people have organized their relationship with the sea.

The lighthouse can be reached by car with parking available nearby, or by taking local buses from Lagos. The site is accessible year-round and visitors can walk around the perimeter to see the surrounding coastline.

From this vantage point you can see remarkable rock formations, sea caves, and natural stone arches carved by the ocean over millions of years. The limestone cliffs display layered colors that shift in appearance as light changes throughout the day.
