Praia dos Aveiros, Sandy beach in Albufeira, Portugal.
Praia dos Aveiros is a sandy beach in a sheltered cove surrounded by tall cliffs and distinctive rock outcrops on both sides. The shoreline has shallow waters close to shore and numerous rock formations scattered throughout the sand.
This section of the Algarve coast has served as a fishing ground for local communities over many centuries. The sheltered cove provided natural protection for boats and made it an ideal location for maritime work.
The beach remains a working fishing village where locals gather to sell fresh seafood and maintain their maritime trades. Visitors can watch traditional practices and enjoy meals prepared from the daily catch at waterfront spots.
Access to the beach is via a staircase near Hotel Auramar, with restrooms and a restaurant available on-site. Swimming is best during calm weather when the rock formations do not create hazards.
When the tide retreats, small hidden beaches emerge along the eastern side of the cove hidden between rock formations. These temporary strips of sand appear only for a few hours before the water returns.
