Praia dos Arrifes

Praia dos Arrifes is a cove beach with three large rock formations rising from clear Atlantic waters and golden sand stretching across the bay. The formations frame the shoreline and create a sheltered swimming area.

The beach earned Blue Flag certification in 2012, marking recognition for environmental and quality standards across Europe. This designation placed it among a select number of certified beaches in the Algarve region.

Local residents call this beach Praia dos Três Penecos after the three prominent rock formations in the water. The name reflects how the landscape shapes everyday conversation and local identity.

Wooden steps lead from the parking area down to the sand, and seasonal facilities including a restaurant and showers are available. Lifeguard services operate during the swimming season, making it an accessible beach for families.

The cliffs surrounding the beach support Europe's only native palm species, the Dwarf Fan Palm, found nowhere else on the continent. It grows alongside pine trees and salt-resistant plants that thrive in this coastal setting.
