Hanul cu Tei, Historical inn in Old Town Bucharest, Romania.
Hanul cu Tei is a two-story inn in Old Town Bucharest featuring stone-paved walkways, traditional iron gates, and glass-fronted facades. The structure now houses exhibition spaces totaling over 1400 square meters where furniture, tapestries, paintings, and period artifacts are displayed.
Built in 1833 by merchants Anastasie Hagi Gheorghe Polizu and Stefan Popovici, the structure originally held 28 shops above vaulted cellars. This design made it a major trading center in Bucharest's old quarter at that time.
This inn served as a vital commercial hub where merchants and travelers gathered over generations, shaping the social fabric of the old quarter. The collections on display today reflect the kinds of goods and crafts that once passed through these halls.
The building sits centrally in Old Town and is accessible both as a hotel and for gallery visits, with clearly organized exhibition spaces. Visitors can navigate through the different collections without difficulty due to the straightforward layout.
The initials A.P. and S.P. of the original owners remain carved into the entrance wall on Blanari Street, a mark that has survived nearly two centuries. This detail connects visitors directly to the merchants who founded this important trading post.
