Khasavyurtovsky District is an administrative region in western Dagestan covering roughly 1,400 square kilometers (540 square miles) with thirteen administrative divisions. The area contains around sixty rural settlements with a population of approximately 140,000 residents.
The district was established in 1929 and experienced major population shifts in 1944 when various ethnic groups were resettled in the area. These demographic changes have remained a defining feature of the region.
