Unaizah

Unaizah is a city in Al-Qassim Province situated at 678 meters elevation across desert terrain with modern structures, traditional markets, and cultivated agricultural land. The surrounding fields produce dates and grains for regional distribution.

Founded in 1630, the city became a key stop for Muslim pilgrims traveling from Mesopotamia and Persia toward Makkah along established trade routes. This position helped it grow into a major commercial center.

The Date Season Festival in September brings together regional farmers and traders, reflecting the city's long-standing role in agricultural commerce and local tradition.

The city is accessible via Gassim Airport about 30 kilometers away, along with two other regional airports in the surrounding area. Visitors should plan trips during cooler months when the heat is manageable.

The Western explorer Charles Montagu Doughty compared the city to Paris in the 19th century because of its distinctive architecture and regional influence. This comparison shows how remarkable the city appeared amid desert surroundings at that time.
