حصاة النصلة, Geological formation in Al-Qassim Region, Saudi Arabia
Haiaya Al-Nassila is a rock formation in the Al-Qassim Region of Saudi Arabia, split down the middle by a deep vertical crack that divides it into two separate halves. The rock rises clearly above the surrounding flat terrain and can be seen from a good distance.
The rock was shaped by geological forces that acted on the Arabian Shield during the Precambrian, making it one of the oldest exposed landforms in the region. The crack that splits it formed gradually through fracturing and slow erosion over a very long time.
The formation has long served travelers as a natural landmark when crossing this part of the region. Its split shape appears in local oral traditions and is still used as a reference point on desert routes today.
Visiting in the early morning or late afternoon gives you the best light to see the split and the texture of the rock surfaces. Marked paths let you walk around the formation and view it from several angles.
Although the split looks like a single straight cut from a distance, it actually follows the natural grain of the rock when seen up close, making each side of the crack slightly different in shape and texture. This means the two halves of the rock are not mirror images of each other.
