The al-Shifa pharmaceutical factory was a medicine production facility in Khartoum North that manufactured treatments for human patients and animals alike. The complex consisted of multiple buildings equipped with machinery sourced from various international suppliers.
The factory opened its doors in July 1997 and began producing medicines for the region's medical needs. An airstrike in August 1998 destroyed the facility after just 13 months of operation.
The facility represented Sudan's advancement in medical manufacturing, employing over 300 local workers in pharmaceutical production and research.
The site remains in its post-strike condition, allowing visitors to see the damage and impact directly. Walking through the grounds gives a clear sense of what happened and how the structures were affected.
