Visitation of Mary Church, Filial church on Rožnik Hill, Slovenia.
Visitation of Mary Church is a filial church located on Rožnik Hill with a Baroque structure and Neoclassical facade that blend together. The interior holds several altars and displays a mix of architectural styles from different periods of renovation.
An earlier chapel occupied this hilltop site starting in 1526, but was eventually replaced by the current building. The present structure was completed in 1747 designed by architect Candido Zulliani and later repaired after suffering damage during the Napoleonic wars.
The church serves as a place of worship for the local community and is maintained by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ljubljana. People who climb the hill often visit it as part of their connection to this corner of the city.
The church sits on Rožnik Hill and can be reached on foot or by various transport options from Ljubljana's center. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended since climbing the hill requires some effort.
Franciscan monks took over management of the church in 1826 and have continued their care ever since. This religious order has shaped the ongoing relationship between the building and the surrounding community.
