Phare du Cap Guardafui, Historical lighthouse in Caluula, Somalia
The Cape Guardafui lighthouse stands 19 meters tall at the northern tip of Somalia, marking the split between the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden.
Construction of the Francesco Crispi Lighthouse began with metal materials in 1924 and was completed in stone by 1930 during the Italian colonial period.
The lighthouse name derives from Mediterranean sailors who called the area Guardafui, meaning 'look and escape' due to the dangerous navigation conditions.
The structure remains accessible for exploration despite its inactive status, offering views across the waters toward the Arabian Sea from its elevated position.
The lighthouse design incorporates both metal and stone construction methods, representing a transition in architectural approaches during its building phases.
