Bitlis Province

Bitlis is a province in eastern Turkey with varied terrain stretching from mountains to the western shore of Lake Van. The region spans roughly 8,300 square kilometers, with the lake surface sitting at around 1,550 meters above sea level.

The territory passed through many rulers over the centuries, including Armenian kingdoms, the Byzantine Empire, and Persian dynasties. Ottoman control came later and shaped how the region developed into modern times.
